Soubhi Shami is a theater director and performance maker working in independent theater. He began his career as an actor in Aleppo in 2004, before expanding his practice to include directing, playwriting, puppet-making, and scenography. He studied puppet theater in Beirut and holds a Diploma in Media Art and Fine Arts from HGB Leipzig.
Since moving to Germany in 2014, he has directed and written more than fifteen theater projects, weaving together body, idea, and image in search of new theatrical languages. His work moves between simple stories with philosophical depth, speaking to adults and children alike.
